The goal of this program is to ensure that no child goes to school without the essential shoes. Councils can purchase much needed new shoes for underprivileged children in need in their local communities.
Due to economic circumstances (unemployment, housing, energy, food, etc.) many families struggle and can not afford to purchase their child/ren something so essential and important as a pair of shoes for school. Every child should have confidence, enjoy their school experience, fulfill their k-12 physical and academic potential, attend college, and become productive, self-sufficient adults.
Studies have shown that the lack of adequate proper fitting sneakers that children wear can be a disadvantage to them and a visible sign of poverty that creates a negative impact to their peer-acceptance and academic/ physical performance. Children who wear worn out or ill-fitting sneakers are often ignored, teased, bullied, and even victimized, in schools and on the play ground. Studies show that children who experience these circumstances develop frustration, low self-esteem, depression, anger, and violence. Consequently, studies also show that proper fitting sneakers can have a positive impact on the lives of many children’s peer-acceptance and overall physical and academic performance.
Your generous gift will help us fund our mission to help a Child in need. Together, we can make a difference.
1. Reach out to local school counselor/nurse for schools being targeted.
2. Ask counselor/school nurse to identify 30-50 students in need.
3. Get list of shoes sizes and gender from school.
4. Get counselor/nurse to set a future date for the donation presentation. Ask if the school can host a small reception in gym/cafeteria/front of school; if not donation can be made directly to the students, donation can be presented to the school counselor/principal.
5. At least five or more brother knights should attend the presentation. (take pictures and submit the Report of Programs to Supreme 10784)
Whether you want to donate money, shoes or time, changing the life of a child really is as simple as a new pair of shoes.
