Knights of Columbus Councils United in Service
Program Overview
Adopt a "Mission" is a collaborative Knights of Columbus initiative where councils “adopt” a local "Mission" to provide targeted support such as:
Jackets, coats, shoes, and socks
School supplies (backpacks, notebooks, pencils)
Hygiene kits and basic necessities
Emergency relief items
The goal is to identify real needs and meet them directly through coordinated multi- council action.
How It Works
1. Select a Mission Site
Councils or districts choose a nearby mission in need.
2. Assign Ownership
A council or group of councils formally adopts a mission site for a set period.
3. Assess Needs
Meet with mission leaders to determine priority needs, population size, and timing.
4. Coordinate Support
Councils work together to provide funds, donated goods and volunteers.
5. Deliver Impact
Hold 1–2 annual service events such as:
Back-to-school drives
Winter coat distributions
Family relief efforts
Best Practices
Assign a council coordinator to track progress
Focus on visible, measurable impact (items distributed, families served)
Partner with other nearby councils, parishes, schools, and local businesses
Align drives with seasonal needs (school, winter, food insecurity)
Call to Action
Every council is challenged to adopt at least one mission site each year and participate in at least one coordinated service event.
This is a call to move from awareness to action—to serve with purpose and deliver real help where it is needed most.
